19 September 2025 - Energy experts, advocates and government delegates from around the world will gather on 24-25 September 2025 on the margins of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week for the EnergyNow SDG7 Action Forum, seeking innovative solutions to end energy poverty and advance a just energy transition. The annual event is convened by UN-Energy, the inter-agency coordination mechanism on energy within the UN system, for which UN DESA serves as secretariat.

This year’s Forum will focus on accelerating progress towards SDG7 (clean and affordable energy for all), drawing on the strategic opportunities identified by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in his July address on “supercharging the clean energy age.”

Engaging discussions will highlight pathways to eradicate energy poverty, strengthen energy security, and advance a just and inclusive net-zero future. This means striving to meet the needs of over 660 million people still lacking electricity and some 1.5 billion people still cooking with dirty fuels like wood and charcoal, with many negative health impacts.

At the Forum, the annual progress report on the Energy Compacts will be launched, showing how governments, businesses, foundations and others are moving forward on their commitments by which they have pledged over $1.4 trillion in finance and investment towards boosting renewables and energy access, and achieving SDG 7 by 2030.

The event will be held in-person at 211 East 46th Street in New York, with online participation available in a limited manner.
