Forests in the COP30 climate agenda

The Forest Pavilion unfolded against the backdrop of COP30 negotiations, where world leaders pressed for stronger commitments on adaptation finance, deeper emissions cuts, and a just transition away from fossil fuels. In public briefings, UN Secretary-General Ant贸nio Guterres stressed that keeping 1.5掳C within reach requires compromise and urgency, including tripling adaptation finance and accelerating the transition to clean energy. He also reaffirmed the centrality of forests in global climate action, declaring that 鈥渋t is imperative to halt and reversing deforestation by 2030 鈥 so nature remains a shield, not a casualty.鈥 His call directly echoes the ambition of the Global Forest Goals, underscoring that safeguarding all forests is indispensable to the world鈥檚 climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development objectives.

This broader momentum was further reflected in the launch of Brazil鈥檚 , a new initiative to reward countries that succeed in halting deforestation. The TFFF aims to mobilize up to $4 billion annually towards 74 tropical and subtropical forest countries. By linking verified forest conservation to direct financial incentives 鈥 including dedicated support for local and Indigenous communities 鈥 the Facility marks a significant step toward expanding accessible, fair and results-based forest finance at the global level.
