"WTO members discussed trade issues of interest to least developed countries (LDCs), Aid for Trade support, WTO technical assistance and a range of other development topics during Development Week, held at the WTO from 16 to 18 June. Members also examined the WTO Secretariat’s note on special and differential treatment provisions in the Agreement on Agriculture and the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), as well as the WTO Technical Assistance Report 2024."

"Enhancing the participation of least-developed countries (LDCs) in agricultural supply chains was the focus of an experience-sharing session on 27 March 2025 organized under the WTO Sub-Committee on LDCs. The event gave WTO members, development partners and representatives from LDCs an opportunity to share initiatives, insights and best practices. At a meeting of the Sub-Committee on LDCs held the same day, members looked at trade trends in LDCs and progress made on LDC graduation discussions."

"To mark its 100th session, the Sub-Committee on Least-Developed Countries (LDCs) on 11 November looked at the progress made over the past 30 years in advancing LDCs’ integration into global trade. LDCs’ share in world exports of goods and commercial services has nearly doubled during this period, but it is still only around 1 per cent, speakers stressed. The meeting brought together ministers and senior representatives of WTO members to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing LDCs."

12 September 2024. "As Bangladesh approaches its graduation from LDC status in 2026, the country faces both challenges and opportunities. A critical area of focus is the Ready-Made Garment sector, which generates approximately 400,000 tonnes of textile waste annually. Efficient recycling of this waste could unlock $3-6 billion in revenue for Bangladesh and significantly contribute to a sustainable LDC graduation.
This session will bring together government and business representatives from Bangladesh and Europe to discuss strategic trade policies for enhancing textile recycling. Key topics will include necessary national policies, the role of trade partners like the EU, and contributions from business partners."

From the WTO: DG Okonjo-Iweala welcomes Timor-Leste as 166th WTO member

30 August 2024. "Timor-Leste joined the WTO on 30 August as its 166th member, after seven and a half years of negotiating its accession terms with WTO members. It is the 11th least-developed country (LDC) to accede to the WTO since the organization's establishment in 1995. Timor-Leste also announced its formal acceptance of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies." News item here.
