Md Faruk Hossain serves as the Team Leader for Sustainable Development in the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA). Md. Hossain is also the Focal Point for the Second Committee and the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).<\/p>\n
Mr. Faruk Hossain is a career diplomat from Bangladesh with over 16 years of experience in international affairs and diplomacy. Prior to joining the OPGA, Mr. Hossain was Director, United Nations, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, where he oversaw Bangladesh’s multilateral relations with the UN systems and UN-affiliated organizations, dealing with issues including human rights, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, disarmament, security, counterterrorism, and violent extremism. Mr. Hossain was also Director, Multilateral Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he dealt with sustainable development, LDC graduation, migration, south-south cooperation, climate change, and other related political-economic issues.<\/p>\n
Among his diplomatic assignments, Mr. Faruk Hossain served in Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore (2011-2019) as Counsellor and Head of Chancery and Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York (2011-2014) as First Secretary.\u00a0 In Bangladesh High Commission, Singapore, Mr. Hossain was responsible for liaison, coordination, and cooperation on bilateral political, economic, trade, business, cultural, tourism, and labor migration issues between Bangladesh and Singapore. He also coordinated consular and protocol services, labor market and export promotion, and was responsible for the High Commission’s administration, budgeting, and budget implementation.<\/p>\n
As First Secretary in Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Mr. Faruk Hossain led the First and Sixth Committees. He was also in charge of peacekeeping and C-34 Issues, including the NAM Working Group on peacekeeping operations and the UNSC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security and peacebuilding, counterterrorism, and security council-related issues (PBC).\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr. Hossain holds a Bachelor and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a Master of International Affairs and Diplomacy degree from the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n
