Carolina Popovici serves as advisor on political, peace and security issues in the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly during the 77th session.<\/p>\n
A Moldovan diplomat with more than 15 years\u2019 experience working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Ms. Popovici served in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova between 2009-2012 as First Secretary, and between 2015-2019 as Counselor and Deputy Permanent Representative. She was responsible for a wide range of issues, including the General Assembly and the six main committees, the Security Council, the ECOSOC and its functional commissions. Ms. Popovici was a Bureau member of several UN elective bodies, including Vice-Chair of the UN Commission on Social Development (57th session), Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of UNDP\/UNFPA\/UNOPS in 2017, Chairperson of the UN Committee on Conferences in 2012 and Vice-Chair of the Third Committee in 2011.<\/p>\n
Prior to joining the Office of the PGA, she also worked for UNOPS for one year, supporting the agency on Executive Board and partnership matters.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Ms. Popovici holds an M.A. degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She is fluent in English, Russian and Romanian, with advanced knowledge of French and a limited command of Spanish.<\/p>\n
