The UN Palestinian Rights Committee delegation visited Madrid, Spain on 8 May 2026. The Committee Delegation met with Mr. Diego Martinez Belio, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss how to keep the momentum from the 2025 Two-State Solution Conference and its New York Declaration – both within the European Union and the wider international arena – against the backdrop of competing geopolitical issues.

At the meeting in the Spanish Parliament, Mr. Enrique Santiago Romero, Vice-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress of Deputies (Lower House of Parliament), detailed efforts to increase support for the Palestinian people and the State of Palestine, including through the strengthening of Spanish laws to prohibit the import of Israeli goods originating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the shipment of military cargo to and from Israel.

In the meeting with Mr. Anton Leis Garcia, Director of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID), the discussion focused on the current humanitarian situation in Gaza and efforts to provide continued support to the Palestinian government in Ramallah, including withing the wider UN framework.
