SECRETARY-GENERAL DEPLORES FURTHER VIOLATION OF LEBANESE SOVEREIGNTY BY ISRAEL

The following statement was issued today by a spokeswoman for Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar:

The Secretary-General has received this morning a letter from the Permanent Representative of Lebanon about the current incursion by Israeli forces into southern Lebanon. He deplores this further violation of Lebanese sovereignty. The Secretary-General has frequently voiced his opposition to acts that increase tension and violence in the area. He remains convinced that peace and security along the Lebanese-Israeli border, including an end to cross-border attacks in both directions, can only be attained through the full implementation of Security Council , which calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territory.
