From Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General as posted on his official X account.
In the Occupied Palestinian Territory, access to education is under attack in plain sight.
Lands and homes have been taken away from Palestinians but not education, considered as a national pride and investment for a better future.
In Gaza, hundreds of thousands of children have been out of formal school since October 2023.
UNRWA is keeping them learning in temporary spaces and online lessons, despite huge obstacles. But they need to get back into the classroom.
In the West Bank, displacement, school closures and daily stresses put 48,000 Palestine Refugee students at risk.
Add UNRWA’s funding crisis and the risk of deep cuts to education programmes by the Agency and others: the risk of a lost generation is real.
UNRWA has made access to education for all Palestine Refugees a priority. To succeed, we count on all our partners and donors.
