This year the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) will hold a Special Meeting to commemorate the event in the ECOSOC Chamber at UNHQ in New York.  Events to commemorate the Solidarity Day will also be held at other UN venues worldwide. \nThe International Day of Solidarity provides an opportunity for the international community to refocus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people are yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly\, namely\, the right to self-determination\, the right to national independence and sovereignty and the right of return of the refugees. \nAn exhibit entitled “Palestine – a Land with a People\,” will be launched on 29 November at UNHQ in the Visitors’ Lobby. It commemorates the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe)\, a deeply traumatic event which took place during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war when more than half of the Palestinian people were expelled from or fled their homes and became refugees. This exhibit showcases photographs\, videos and art depicting different episodes in the Palestinian journey before\, during\, and after the Nakba. It serves as a reminder that close to 6 million Palestinians remain refugees to this day\, scattered throughout the region. Hundreds of thousands of these refugees have experienced an additional forced displacement while thousands were killed\, during the 2023 Gaza war\, amid a situation described as a “humanitarian catastrophe” by the Secretary-General. \n\nSecretary-General Message on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People\n\n\nMessages of Solidarity– 29 November 2023\n\nHeads of State: Algeria (Arabic)\, Brazil (English)\, Brunei Darussalam (English)\, China (Chinese and English)\, Egypt (Arabic)\, Indonesia (English and Indonesian)\, Iran (Persian and English)\, Iraq (Arabic)\, Jordan (Arabic)\, Kyrgyzstan (English and Kyrgyz)\, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (English)\, Maldives (English)\, Morocco (Arabic\, English\, French\, and Spanish)\, Nicaragua (English and Spanish)\, Qatar (Arabic)\, Russia (Russian)\, Senegal (French)\, Sri Lanka (English)\, Tunisia (Arabic)\, Turkiye (Turkish and English)\, United Arab Emirates (English)\, Venezuela (Spanish)\, Viet Nam (English and Vietnamese)\, Zimbabwe (English) \nHeads of Government: Bangladesh (English)\, India (English)\, Lebanon (Arabic)\, Malaysia (English)\, Malta (English)\, Pakistan (English) \nMinisters for Foreign Affairs: Argentina (Spanish)\, Bahrain (Arabic)\, Cuba (Spanish)\, Japan (English)\, Mauritania (Arabic)\, Mexico (Spanish)\, Namibia (English)\, Philippines (English)\, Saudi Arabia\, Syria (Arabic) \nGovernment: Guyana (English) \n  \n\nUN Geneva will also host the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People Opens on 29 November at the Palais des Nations.
