SUMMARY:War on Gaza: impact on Palestinian Women and children
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL EVENT \n13 March 2024\, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (NY Time) \nConvened by  \nCommittee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) \n The virtual event\, organized by the CEIRPP on the margin of the annual meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) aims to support the rights of Palestinian women and provide a platform to inform about their situation under occupation.  By organizing this event\, the Committee intends to discuss the impact of the war in Gaza on Palestinian women and children in particular. \nSince 7 October 2023\, Palestinians in Gaza have endured the most brutal and unprecedented levels of violent conflict under a siege and catastrophic living conditions. As of date\, more than 29\,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict in the Gaza Strip\, 70 per cent of whom were women or children\, and an estimated nearly 1 million women and girls have been displaced. Women\, children and newborns in Gaza are disproportionately bearing the burden of the escalation of hostilities\, both as casualties and in reduced access to health services\, as reported by most UN Agencies operating in the Gaza Strip. \nAs the primary caretakers in most families\, women face first-hand the long-term consequences of the devastating psychological impact of intergenerational trauma for entire families in Gaza\, and the impact on their health and safety due to the lack of clean water and sanitation services\, shelter\, homes\, hospitals and treatment\, schools and universities\, places of worship\, are an unspeakable burden on the entire population\, carried mostly by women. Education of future generations of young Palestinians in Gaza is the other unspoken victim of this war\, as over 625\,000 students have been deprived of teachers or safe places to learn\, as most of UNRWA schools have been turned into shelters. \nThe event will be mainstreamed live on UN WebTV. \nGeneral audience can send their questions to dpr-meeting@un.org. \n\nProgramme
