The Nakba remains a deeply traumatic event in the Palestinian collective memory and continues to shape their struggle for justice and for their right to return to their homes.   \nThe UN Palestinian Rights Committee will commemorate the anniversary at UNHQ\, pursuant to GA resolution A/RES/79/82. A Special Meeting will be organized on 15 May\, in the ECOSOC Chamber\, 10 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. (NY Time)\, in which the President of the General Assembly will give a keynote speech. You can watch be livestream here.  \nCommemorations will continue with an exclusive screening of the documentary “From Ground Zero”. Created by 22 artists living under siege in the Gaza Strip\, this powerful film offers a vital and deeply contextualized perspective beyond the brutal media live stream on Gaza. Through bold uses of allegory and raw creative expression\, the filmmakers bear witness to life under constant bombardment and forced starvation. Their testimonies reveal the fragments of a daily struggle not only to survive\, but to do so with unyielding dignity. This exclusive preview will take place at 1:15 p.m. in the ECOSOC chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York. \nThe screening is open to valid UN Ground Pass holders (delegates\, staff\, UN accredited NGOs).  URL:/unispal/event/commemoration-of-the-nakba-2025/ LOCATION:Economic and Social Council Chamber (ECOSOC)\, NY\, United States CATEGORIES:Committee Meetings END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20250515T150000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20250516T180000 DTSTAMP:20260802T102652 CREATED:20250409T153707Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250515T202401Z UID:306772-1747321200-1747418400@www.un.org SUMMARY:Committee Consultations with Civil Society Organizations DESCRIPTION:The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene its first 2025 civil society engagement “International Action Towards Ending the Nakba and Realising the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People”\, on the margins of the 77th commemoration of the Palestinian Nakba\, on 15 May 2025 (3-6 p.m.) and 16 May 2025 (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) in the ECOSOC Chamber at United Nations Headquarters.  \nMember States and CSOs will brief on ongoing actions to implement GA resolution ES-10/24.
