Illegal Israeli human settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory*<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>The Commission on Human Settlements,<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling<\/u><\/span> its resolution <\/span>13\/6<\/a> of 8 May 1991 and <\/span>14\/9<\/a> of 5 May 1993 on housing requirements for the Palestinian people,<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling also<\/u><\/span> resolution <\/span>ES-10\/2<\/a> adopted by the General Assembly on 25 April 1997, at its tenth emergency session, in which the Assembly condemns the construction by Israel, the occupying Power, of a new settlement in Jebal Abu Ghneim to the south of occupied East Jerusalem and all other Israeli actions in all the occupied territories,<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Considering<\/u> that the issue of housing for Palestinian people, especially refugees in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, falls within the mandate of the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat),<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Taking into account<\/u> the serious deterioration in living conditions and instability of human settlements in cities, towns and localities in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in the occupied Holy city of East Jerusalem, as a result of Israeli occupation practices, such as the construction of illegal human settlements,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Calls upon<\/u> the Israeli authorities to implement the following measures in order to enable the Palestinian people, in the territories occupied since 1967, to secure their housing needs:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(a)\t<\/span>To put an end to the confiscation of Palestinian lands and the establishments to house immigrants in the occupied territories;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(b)\t<\/span>To halt all forms of Israeli construction activities to establish a new settlement in Jebel Abu Ghneim to the south of East Jerusalem;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(c)\t<\/span>To refrain from applying polices that prevent and hamper the issuance of building permits to the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, including Jerusalem;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Calls upon<\/u> the international donor community to increase financial assistance needed for an overall solution to the housing problems in the occupied Palestinian territories;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Executive Director of the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) to cooperate with the Secretary-General in monitoring the situation and preparing the report called for the General Assembly at its tenth emergency session;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Also requests<\/u> the Executive Director to present to the Commission at its seventeenth session a comprehensive report on his contribution in compliance with the present resolutions.<\/p><\/div>\n
