27.\t<\/span>Qatar was extremely concerned about the continuing sufferings of children in Palestine, who were deprived of the most basic rights such as education, health care and a peaceful life. It was confident that the international community had the means and authority to bring pressure to bear on the Israeli Government to comply with international norms and respect the rights of Palestinian children. <\/p><\/div>\n

44.\t<\/span>The undertaking of a study on violence against children confirmed the international community’s commendable efforts to protect the rights of the child. In that context, it was important to recall the suffering of innocent Palestinian children as a result of Israeli occupation, as well as the critical situation in Iraq. <\/p><\/div>\n

58.\t<\/span>When debating the rights of the child, it was necessary to recall the suffering of children living under foreign occupation. The creation of a fair and peaceful world fit for children was a collective responsibility and the international community had an obligation to halt occupation and promote decent living conditions without distinction. Palestinian children were deprived of their homes and of their most basic rights, including the right to life. Children in the occupied Golan were suffering from repressive practices by Israeli occupying forces, which had banned books and educational programmes from Syria and closed schools in an effort to systematically wipe out Syrian identity in the local community. <\/p><\/div>\n
