Draft resolution on the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

occupied Syrian Golan<\/u> (E\/1999\/L.32)<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Mr. DEMBRI<\/u> (Algeria), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of its sponsors, to which should be added the representatives of Cuba and Pakistan, described the hardships suffered by the Arab populations of the occupied Arab territories at the hands of the Israelis.  The Palestinians were still awaiting implementation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and of the various agreements.  The Israeli occupation was not only a source of violence and instability in the region but also severely affected the economic and social development of the occupied territories.  The Israeli authorities must be urged to abide strictly by their international commitments, since further delaying tactics would have a negative impact on the peace process and jeopardize the prospects of peaceful cohabitation and cooperation. <\/p><\/div>\n
