Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen: amendments to draft resolution <\/strong><\/span>A\/C.3\/58\/L.30\/Rev.2<\/strong><\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

   <\/strong><\/span>The situation of and assistance to Israeli children<\/strong><\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.   In the title of the draft resolution, delete the word “Israeli” and after the word “children” insert the words “in the Middle East region”. The title will thus read as follows: <\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“The situation of and assistance to children in the Middle East region”\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

2.   In the fifth preambular paragraph, delete the word “Israeli” and insert the words “Middle East”. Before the word “terrorism” add the words “occupation, violence and”. The paragraph will thus read as follows:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“Concerned<\/i> that Middle East children suffering from the effects of occupation, violence and terrorism are deprived of many basic rights under the Convention”.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

3.  After the fifth preambular paragraph, add the following paragraph: <\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“Emphasizing<\/i> that foreign occupation, violations of international law, including international humanitarian law, violations of instruments relevant to the well-being of the child, and deprivation, hostility and confrontation are the main sources of the suffering and hardship of children in the whole Middle East region”.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

4.   In the seventh preambular paragraph, after the word “violence”, add the words “military assaults, excessive use of force”, and before the word “children”, delete the word “Israeli”. The amended paragraph should read:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t \t<\/span>“Expressing its condemnation<\/i> of all acts of violence, military assaults, excessive use of force and incitement to violence and terrorism, resulting in extensive loss of human life and injuries, including among children”.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

5.   Replace the eighth preambular paragraph with the following paragraph:<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“Affirming<\/i> the obligations of Israel, the occupying Power, under the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949”.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

6.   In operative paragraph 1, replace the word “Israeli” with the words “Middle East”, and after the word “from”, insert the words “occupation, deprivation”. The amended paragraph should read:<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“1.  Stresses<\/i> the urgent need for Middle East children to live a normal life free from occupation, deprivation, terrorism, destruction and fear”.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n

7.   Replace operative paragraph 2 with the following paragraph:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“2.  Expresses its support<\/i> for all efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East and to ensure peace and prosperity for the peoples of the region, including children”.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
