\t<\/span>Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>At its 2623rd meeting, held on 17 October 1985, the Security Council resumed its consideration of the item, having before it the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) covering the period from 12 April 1985 to 10 October 1985 (<\/span>S\/17557<\/a><\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Lebanon and Israel, at their request, to participate in the discussion without the right to vote.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The President called attention to a draft resolution (S\/17567<\/span><\/a><\/a>) which had been prepared in the course of the Council's consultations.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Security Council voted on the draft resolution (S\/17567) which was adopted by 13 votes in favour, to none against, with 2 abstentions (Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) as resolution 575 (1985).<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>Resolution 575 (1985) reads as follows: <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The Security Council<\/u>,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Recalling<\/u> its resolutions 425 (1978), 426 (1978), 501 (1982) 508 (1982), 509 (1982) and 520 (1982), as well as all its resolutions on the situation in Lebanon,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Having studied<\/u> the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon of 10 October 1985 (S\/17557) and taking note of the observations expressed therein,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Taking note<\/u> of the letter of the Permanent Representative of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General of 3 October 1985 (S\/17526),\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Responding<\/u> to the request of the Government of Lebanon,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Decides<\/u> to extend the present mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for a further interim period of six months, that is, until 19 April 1986;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Reiterates<\/u> its strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon within its internationally recognized boundaries;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Re-emphasizes<\/u> the terms of reference and general guidelines of the Force as stated in the report of the Secretary-General of 19 March 1978, approved by resolution 426 (1978), and calls upon all parties concerned to co-operate fully with the Force for the full implementation of its mandate;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Reiterates<\/u> that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon should fully implement its mandate as defined in resolutions 425 (1978), 426 (1978) and all other relevant resolutions;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>5.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Secretary-General to continue consultations with the Government of Lebanon and other parties directly concerned on the implementation of the present resolution and to report to the Council.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
