Draft resolution submitted by the President of the General Assembly<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>General Assembly resolution supporting the immediate ceasefire according to Security Council resolution 1860 (2009)<\/strong><\/span>[Link<\/a>]<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The General Assembly<\/i>,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Reaffirming<\/i> the continuing responsibility of the United Nations with regard to the question of Palestine until it is solved in all its aspects,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling<\/i><\/span> the relevant rules and principles of international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law, in particular the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/span> which is applicable to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, <\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Deeply concerned<\/i> that, despite the adoption by the Security Council of resolution 1860 (2009) of 8 January 2009, Israel, the occupying Power, continues its massive use of military force, causing a severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, including widespread death and injury among the Palestinian civilian population, among them many children and women, and the extensive destruction of vital Palestinian health, education, security and other public infrastructure,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Convinced<\/i> that achieving a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement of the question of Palestine, the core of the Arab-Israeli conflict, is imperative for the attainment of comprehensive, just and lasting peace and stability in the Middle East,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Demands<\/i> full respect for Security Council resolution 1860 (2009), including its urgent call for an immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and its call for the unimpeded provision and distribution throughout Gaza of humanitarian assistance, including food, fuel and medical treatment;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Calls upon<\/i> all parties, including the Security Council itself, to use all means at their disposal to ensure full and urgent compliance with Council resolution 1860 (2009);\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Expresses its support<\/i> in this regard for the mission undertaken by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and for other international and regional efforts under way;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Also expresses its support<\/i> for the extraordinary efforts by the United Nations agencies, in particular the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, to provide emergency relief, medical and other humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>5.\t<\/span>Calls upon<\/i> all Member States to urgently extend the necessary support to international and regional efforts aimed at alleviating the critical humanitarian and economic situation in the Gaza Strip, and emphasizes in this regard the need to ensure the sustained opening of border crossings for the free movement of persons and goods into and out of the Gaza Strip, in accordance with the Agreement on Movement and Access, of 15 November 2005;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>6.\t<\/span>Decides<\/i> to adjourn the tenth emergency special session temporarily and to authorize the President of the General Assembly at its most recent session to resume its meeting upon request from Member States.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
