\t<\/span>Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>At its 2687th meeting, held on 29 May 1986, the Security Council resumed its consideration of the item, having before it the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) for the period 14 November 1985 to 14 May 1986 (<\/span>S\/18061<\/a><\/a><\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The President drew attention to the draft resolution before the Council (S\/18109), which had been prepared in the course of the Council's consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Security Council then voted on the draft resolution (S\/18109), and adopted it unanimously as resolution 584 (1986).<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Resolution 584 (1986) reads as follows: <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The Security Council<\/u>,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Having considered<\/u> the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S\/18061),\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Decides<\/u>:\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(a)\t<\/span>To call upon the parties concerned to implement immediately Security Council resolution 338 (1973) of 22 October 1973;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(b)\t<\/span>To renew the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another period of six months, that is, until 30 November 1986;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(c)\t<\/span>To request the Secretary-General to submit, at the end of this period, a report on the developments in the situation and the measures taken to implement Security Council resolution 338 (1973).\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\t<\/span>Following the voting, the President of the Security Council stated that, in connection with the resolution just adopted, he had been authorized to make the following complementary statement (S\/18111) on behalf of the Security Council:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"As is known, the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S\/18061) states, in paragraph 25: 'Despite the present quiet in the Israel-Syria sector, the situation in the Middle East as a whole continues to be potentially dangerous and is likely to remain so, unless and until a comprehensive settlement covering all aspects of the Middle East problem can be reached'.  That statement of the Secretary-General reflects the view of the Security Council."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
