\n<\/span>2002\/90. The situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Commission on Human Rights,<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Guided<\/i> by the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling<\/i><\/span> its <\/span>resolution 2002\/1<\/a> of 5 April 2002 and its decision 2002\/103 of 16 April 2002 calling for a visiting mission to travel immediately to the area and report to the Commission thereon,<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Noting with appreciation<\/i> the efforts of the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Personal Representative of the Secretary-General to the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and other organizations to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Noting also with appreciation <\/i>the efforts made by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the two other members of her team to undertake the visit to the occupied Palestinian territory as mandated by the Commission,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Deplores<\/i> the denial by Israel of the visit of the team headed by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, in defiance of Commission resolution 2002\/1 and decision 2002\/103;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.<\/span>\t<\/span>Takes note<\/i><\/span> of the report submitted by the High Commissioner (<\/span>E\/CN.4\/2002\/184<\/a>) providing details of reports of the gross, widespread and flagrant violations of the human rights of the Palestinian people and the utter disregard for international humanitarian law by the Israeli forces in their operations in the occupied Palestinian territory;<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Expresses deep concern <\/i>at the grave humanitarian situation of the Palestinian civilian population following the invasion by Israel of Palestinian cities and camps, especially Jenin Camp, and condemns the continuing gross, widespread and flagrant violations of human rights of the Palestinian people by the occupying Power, Israel;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Endorses<\/i>, in this context, the proposal by the High Commissioner for Human Rights for a comprehensive investigation into the breaches of human rights and international humanitarian law; <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span><\/i>5.\t<\/span>Calls upon<\/i> Israel to ensure full respect for human rights and international humanitarian law, especially the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>6.\t<\/span>Calls upon<\/i> the international community to provide urgent and adequate humanitarian assistance for the reconstruction of the areas in the occupied Palestinian territory destroyed by Israeli military operations;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>7.\t<\/span>Decides <\/i>to continue its consideration of this question in the light of further developments in the occupied Palestinian territory.<\/p><\/div>\n
