Serry, Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Process<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:8px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">9 July 2008 &#8211; The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO) today concluded a series of discussions in Cairo, Egypt, and Amman, Jordan, following earlier talks with President Mahmoud Abbas and senior Israeli officials. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:8px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">In his travels, Robert Serry discussed all facets of the Middle East peace process, expressing the UN&#8217;s support for Egyptian efforts to consolidate calm in Gaza and enhance conditions for civilians, UN spokesperson Michele Montas told journalists. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:8px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">He also underscored the Secretary-General&#8217;s backing of the continuing Israeli-Palestinian political negotiations, steps taken by President Abbas&#8217; to boost Palestinian unity and the indirect talks between Israel and Syria, she added. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;padding-top:8px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsco.org\/Default.asp\" style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:8px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\"><strong>UNSCO<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">&nbsp;was established in 1994 following the signing of the Oslo Accord, and since 2002, the Special Coordinator has been the Secretary-General&#8217;s envoy in the Middle East Quartet, comprising the UN, the United States, the European Union and Russia. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Middle East: UN envoy wraps up talks in Egypt and Jordan Robert H.
