Statement from the Office of the Quartet Representative on the Economic Plan to boost the Palestinian economy<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

As the US Secretary of State John Kerry said today, the Office of the Quartet Representative in Jerusalem is working intensively in coordination with international donors to develop ideas for an economic plan which is intended to create the positive surrounding environment for the re-launch of the Israeli-Palestinian political negotiations.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The plan will complement, support and run in parallel with a renewed political process, and is not intended to replace that political process.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

We are in the process of analyzing the potential of various sectors of the Palestinian economy and identifying measures that could be taken to spur transformative economic growth. We are looking at sectors that can drive broad-based economic growth and job creation in the Palestinian Territories, such as tourism, ICT, agriculture and construction, with the aim of increasing GDP by 50% within three years and reduce unemployment from 22% to single-digit figures.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Office of the Quartet Representative is consulting a number of key international and local experts and stakeholders from the different economic sectors, and will provide further details of the potential options for investment, job creation and economic growth in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem in due course.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
