The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People<\/u><\/strong><\/span> will convene the <\/span>United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People <\/i><\/span>in <\/span>Rome, Italy, at the FAO Headquarters, on 27 and 28 February 2013. <\/strong><\/span>The theme of the Seminar is <\/span>"Assistance to the Palestinians — challenges and opportunities in the new reality of a State under occupation".<\/i><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Mr. Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, <\/strong><\/span>Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Representative of the UN Secretary-General; <\/span>Mr. Abdou Salam Diallo, <\/strong><\/span>Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People; <\/span>Mr. Nabil Kassis, <\/strong><\/span>Palestinian Authority Minister of Finance and Representative of the State of Palestine; and <\/span>Ms. Fernanda Guerrieri, <\/strong><\/span>Directeur de Cabinet, Food and Agriculture Organization, will open the Seminar<\/span>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The purpose of the Seminar is to review the impact of the Israeli occupation and practices on the socio­economic situation in the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip. In addition, the Seminar will look at the financial and developmental challenges and opportunities following the UN admission of the State of Palestine. Finally, it will address the role of the international donor community in mobilizing and coordinating the assistance in light of the new political reality. The entire event will be webcast live at<\/span> <\/u><\/span>http:\/\/webtv.un.org<\/u><\/a>.<\/u><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

A press conference <\/strong>is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 February at 12:30 p.m. (FAO Headquarters). <\/strong>Registered media representatives will have the opportunity to also arrange individual interviews with members of the Committee delegation and participating speakers and to take part in the discussion period at the end of each plenary.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Division for Palestinian Rights will regularly provide Seminar updates on its<\/span> website,<\/u><\/span> <\/span>Facebook<\/u><\/span> and <\/span>Twitter<\/u><\/span> via the hash tag #UNPalrights. Questions to the speakers could be submitted by including #UNPalrights in the tweet, and the name of the speaker the question is directed at.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The Chairman's summary as well as the full report of the Seminar proceedings will be issued, in due course, as a publication of the Division for Palestinian Rights.<\/p><\/div>\n
