the occasion of the meeting of the Middle East Quartet in<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Washington<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The President of the European Parliament has issued the following statement on the occasion of the meeting of the Middle East Quartet – the United Nations, the European Union, the USA and Russia – in Washington.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

"I welcome the efforts of the Middle East Quartet meeting in Washington to revive the peace process. This meeting is expected to produce concrete results as a matter of urgency. Recognition of both Israel's right to live within secure borders and the Palestinians' right to a State within secure borders must go hand in hand with securing peace in Lebanon. If the peace process is not to fail, the influence on that process of outside forces in the region who are interested in exacerbating the situation must be avoided. In the interests of the people in the Middle East, no more time must be lost in the quest for peace."<\/p><\/div>\n

Zu dem heutigen Treffen des sogenannten Nahost-Quartetts – Vereinte Nationen, Europäische Union, USA und Russland – in Washington hat der Präsident des<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Europäischen Parlaments erklärt: <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

"Ich begrüsse, dass das Nahost-Quartett sich in Washington darum bemühen wird, den Friedensprozess wiederzubeleben. Von diesem Treffen werden dringend<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

konkrete Resultate erwartet. Die Anerkennung sowohl des Rechtes Israels in sicheren Grenzen zu leben als auch des Rechtes der Palästinenser auf einen Staat in sicheren Grenzen muss einhergehen mit der Sicherung des Friedens im Libanon.  Wenn der Friedensprozess nicht scheitern soll, muss die Einflussnahme fremder Kräfte in der Region, die an einer Verschärfung der Situation interessiert sind, auf den Friedensprozess vermieden werden. Im Interesse der Menschen im Nahen Osten, darf keine weitere Zeit bei der Suche nach dem Frieden verloren gehen."<\/p><\/div>\n
