Statement by the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process,
\nMr. Nickolay Mladenov, on the inauguration of the Qatari-funded housing project in Gaza <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/strong>Jerusalem, 17 January 2016<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

On the occasion of the inauguration of the first phase of the City of HH Sheikh Hamad in Gaza and the handing over of 1,060 much needed housing units to Palestinian families whose houses were totally destroyed in the 2014 conflict, the Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov said: <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

"I take this opportunity to thank the State of Qatar for its relentless efforts and commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza. The completion of the first phase of this project is a significant step in rebuilding lives and livelihoods in Gaza. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The work of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip in the housing, electricity, agriculture and infrastructure sectors is an important contribution to the effort of the international community. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

On this note, I urge international donors to disburse their financial commitments made in October 2014 at the Cairo Gaza reconstruction conference. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The United Nations family will continue to support the efforts of the Palestinian Authority to work with all concerned in rebuilding Gaza.” <\/p><\/div>\n
