Drawing on the various WHO programmes, contributions cover activities from field and country offices and the support provided by WHO regional offices and Headquarters. The mandate of the WHO Departments specifically concerned with Emergency and Humanitarian Action in Crises is to increase the effectiveness of the WHO contribution to crisis preparedness and response, transition and recovery. This note, which is not exhaustive, is designed for internal use and does not reflect any official position of the WHO Secretariat.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;padding-top:14px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#111111;font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORY<\/span><span style=\"color:#111111;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Assessments and events:<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; Starting on 26 November, a ceasefire has been agreed upon for the Gaza Strip. Both Israeli and Palestinian officials have said they would like to extend the ceasefire to the West Bank.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; The general strike of Palestinian Authority (PA) employees continued throughout October in protest against the non-payment of salaries. The strike negatively affects medical facilities and other services, particularly in the West Bank.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Actions:<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; On 21 November WHO visited Al Ahli Hospital, the main NGO hospital in Hebron as well as MoH and NGOs health facilities in Tulkarem to assess the impact of the strike.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; WHO and WFP discussed coordination on food security management and food vulnerability system and areas of collaboration, especially in the area of household nutrition surveys.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; WHO met with ECHO to discuss the implementation of the nutrition project &quot;Strengthening Nutrition Surveillance System in the oPt&#8221; funded by ECHO.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; On Thursday, 23rd of November, the WHO representative met with the representative of Finland to review the health situation and the Finnish support to the health sector through the CAP.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; WHO&#8217;s 2006 emergency activities are funded by the Organization&#8217;s Regular Budget and contributions from ECHO, Finland, Japan and Norway.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\/&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Health action in crises (WHO\/HAC) Highlights No 136 &#8211; 27 November to 3 December 2006 Each week, the World Health Organization Department for Health Action in Crises in Geneva produces information highlights on the health aspects of selected humanitarian crises.
