EVENT IN JERUSALEM THIS FRIDAY TO MARK NEW EU CONTRIBUTION TO UNRWA<\/u><\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

This Friday, December 18 2009, UNRWA and the EU will celebrate the signing of a new EUR€10m contribution in support of UNRWA’s education programme across all five of the Agency’s fields. The new funds represent a crucial response to UNRWA’s financial crisis, and will enable the Agency to realise the goal of universal access and quality education for all Palestine refugees.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The agreement will be signed by Mr Christian Berger, Representative of the European Union to UNRWA, and the outgoing Commissioner-General of UNRWA Karen Abu Zayd, in what will be her last official press appearance in Jerusalem.  Ms Abu Zayd will welcome questions on her views as she prepares to leave office and the region. <\/p><\/div>\n

Mr Berger and Mr. Nils Eliasson, the Swedish Consular General in Jerusalem, will be informing the Commissioner-General about the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty<\/span>,<\/span> and will take the opportunity to express the EU’s support for UNRWA's activities.   They will also welcome questions on issues related to the EU’s partnership with UNRWA<\/span>,<\/span> and other ongoing developments<\/span>. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

This event will be held at 9am in the large conference room, UNRWA HQ, East Jerusalem 97200. <\/p><\/div>\n
