\n\t\t\t\tPRESS CONFERENCE BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT ON OCTOBER WORK PROGRAMME<\/u><\/strong>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

During the month of October, the Security Council would hold two open debates in which non-Council Member States could participate, respectively, on “women, peace and security” and on the situation in the Middle East, Council President Le Luong Minh, the Permanent Representative of Viet Nam, said today.<\/p><\/div>\n

The open debate on the Middle East would take place on 20 October, he said.  Over the past several months, there had been many important developments and, as such, there seemed to be more eagerness to move the peace process forward.  Member States would have an opportunity to comment on recent developments and contribute ideas to the solution of the conflict.  The United Nations Secretary-General would attend, he added.<\/p><\/div>\n

It would be up to Member States whether they wanted to discuss the issue of reported undue pressure on the Human Rights Council to postpone consideration of its report on the events that took place in Gaza at the beginning of the year, he responded to a question on that matter.<\/p><\/div>\n
