In 2016, the conflict in Syria continued with intensity and unpredictability, resulting in further loss of civilian life and material destruction. Affected communities suffer indiscriminate<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

violence,restriction on their freedom of movement, and continued violations of international humanitarian and human rights law.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Palestine refugees are among those worst affected bythe conflict. Over 95 per cent of those who have remained in Syria (430,000) are in critical need of sustained humanitarian assistance, while those in Lebanon and Jordan have been pushed into a precarious and marginalized existence due to their uncertain legal status and face limited social protection.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

In 2017, UNRWA requires US$ 411 million for its humanitarian response to the Syria crisis. The Agency's humanitarian response will be guided by the following three strategic priorities:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

•<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>Preserving resilience through the provision of humanitarian assistance<\/strong><\/span> in the form of cash, food and relief items.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

•<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>Providing a protective framework for Palestine refugees through helping mitigate their vulnerability<\/strong><\/span> by maintaining access to basic services, including education; health; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); and livelihoods, and promoting respect for international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law (IHRL).<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

•<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>Strengthening humanitarian capacity, coordination and management<\/strong><\/span> to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of emergency programme delivery.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Cash Assistance<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Cash assistance to 430,000 Palestinians in Syria, 31,500 Palestinian refugees from Syria (PRS) in Lebanon, and 15,300 PRS in Jordan to meet a range of food and non-food needs.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Food Assistance<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Six rounds of food parcels distributed to 430,000 Palestinians in Syria covering 1\/3 of daily nutritional needs.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Shelter and NFIs<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Support for up to 2,600 refugees in collective shelters in Syria and 280,000 basic relief items for Palestinians in Syria, including blankets, clothing and mattresses.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Livlihoods<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Microfinance loans to 39,750 Palestine refugees and Syrians in 2017 in Syria in areas where economic activities are ongoing and vocational training to over 1,270 Palestinian youth in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Health<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Access to basic health care for all Palestinian refugees in Syria and PRS in Jordan and Lebanon.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Education in Emergencies<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Continued access to education for over 44,000 Palestinians in Syria and 5,251 PRS and 1,351 PRS in Lebanon and Jordan, respectively.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Protection<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Targeted assistance to all Palestine refugees identified as experiencing a protection risk and continued advocacy for respect for international humanitarian and human rights law.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n

Environmental Health<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to 430,000 Palestine refugees in Syria. <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Safety and Security<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Ensuring the safety and security of staff and beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Repairs and Maintenance of UNRWA Installations<\/p>\n<\/td>\n
