Norway disburses USD 13.3 mill. in general budget support to the Palestinian Authority<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

6 June 2014 – Norway has transferred the second of three tranches of its general budget support to the Palestinian Authority for 2014. Each tranche amounts to USD 13.3 mill., for a total of USD 40 mill. in 2014.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Norwegian budget support is provided in support to the state building effort of the PA, with the goal of an independent, viable and peaceful Palestinian state established upon a peace agreement with Israel. Norway has a particular responsibility in this regard, in its role as Chair of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC). The AHLC is the donor group for Palestine, consisting of major donor countries, which collectively donated a total of USD 1.2 billion to the PA in general budget support alone in 2013.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Norwegian budget support to the PA is channelled through a World Bank Trust Fund, which is also funded by the Australia, France, Japan, Qatar and the UK. The Trust Fund transfers its grant holdings to the PA on a quarterly basis, on the condition that the PA continues to perform well on its reform agenda, aimed at increasing fiscal sustainability, accountability and transparency. <\/p><\/div>\n
