− <\/span>The number of people under surveillance for this reporting period is 869 375 out of 1 073 303 (81%) Palestine refugees registered with UNRWA in the Gaza Strip. This number corresponds to beneficiaries effectively accessing UNRWA Health services in 2008;<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

− <\/span>The reporting completeness for epiweek eight of 2009 is 100%;<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

− <\/span>There was a progressive increase in the total number of consultations from week one to week four, probably an expression of resuming access to services after the end of the war. A lower number of patients were visited between week five and six and the number showed again an increase in week seven and eight of 2009;<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

− <\/span>Watery diarrhoea as well as acute bloody diarrhoea remain the major causes of morbidity among reportable infectious diseases in the refugee population of the Gaza Strip. During week eight, there was an increase in the reported cases of acute watery diarrhoea (both in the <3 year group and in the >3 years groups). Acute bloody diarrhoea and acute hepatitis showed an overall stabilization in the incidence trend.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

− <\/span>Acute watery diarrhoea <3 years <\/span>exceeded the alarm threshold during the reporting period<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>, close monitoring of the trend will be undertaken. Other diseases showed no breaches of alarm and alert thresholds during the reporting period.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
