Consideration of the Commission’s <\/u><\/span>General Report<\/u><\/a> (continued)<\/u><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The General Committee continued its consideration of the draft of Chapter A of the Commission’s <\/span>General Report<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Following an exchange of views on the new wording of paragraphs 34, 35 and 36, the CHAIRMAN stated that he would himself prepare a new draft text bringing out more clearly the reasons for the proposal to establish joint committees and giving details of the organization and procedure of those committees.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Paragraphs 39 to 57 were approved subject to certain deletions and minor drafting changes and also a redrafting of paragraph 45 in order to bring out the two separate ideas set forth in that paragraph.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The meeting was adjourned from 12 noon to 2.00 p.m.<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

When the meeting was resumed, the General Committee, after taking note of the new text of paragraphs 34, 35 and 36 prepared by Mr. Waldo, approved that text. Chapter A as a whole was thus approved<\/i>.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Committee than took up consideration of the draft of Chapter B dealing with the question of Jerusalem and the Holy Places.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Paragraphs 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 were approved subject to a few minor amendments.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

It was decided to replace the existing wording of paragraph 3 by a new wording to be based on a draft prepared by Mr. Eralp (Turkey).<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

As regards paragraph 6, it was decided<\/i> to include in that paragraph a brief analysis of the Statute of Jerusalem bringing out the main features of the proposed international regime.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n
