The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO ACTION NEWS<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>16 June 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Global<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 14 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/press-releases\/gaza-looming-humanitarian-catastrophe-highlights-need-lift-israels-10-year-illegal-blockade\/\">Amnesty International<\/a> issued a statement warning that the decision to cut Gaza\u2019s electricity supply could have severe humanitarian consequences (\u201cGaza: Looming Humanitarian Catastrophe Highlights Need to Lift Israel\u2019s 10-Year Illegal Blockade\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 14 June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20170614_joint_letter_on_gaza_electricity\">16 Israeli civil society organizations<\/a> \u2013 Adalah, Akevot, Amnesty International Israel, The Association for Civil Rights in Israel, Bimkom, Breaking the Silence, B\u2019Tselem, Gisha, HaMoked, Haqel, Ir Amim, Peace Now, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, Rabbis for Human Rights, Yesh Din and Zazim \u2013 sent a letter to Israel\u2019s Attorney General urging him to persuade the Security Cabinet to reverse its decision to reduce the supply of electricity to Gaza.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 13 June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.addameer.org\/news\/administrative-detention-prominent-palestinian-writer-ahmad-qatamish-confirmed\">Addameer<\/a> reported that Palestinian writer and political scientist Ahmad Qatamish has had his administrative detention confirmed for three months by a military court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 13 June, the National Coalition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indcatholicnews.com\/news\/32791\">Christian Organizations in Palestine<\/a> (NCCOP) sent an open letter to the World Council of Churches (WCC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20170613_gaza_electricity\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a> issued a press release on 13 June entitled \u201cThe PA\u2019s wrongful actions towards Gaza residents do not mean Israel can shirk its responsibility for their fate\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 12 June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/targets\/third-party-states\/1121-colonizing-the-occupied-palestinian-territory-fifty-years-of-israeli-impunity-fifty-years-of-international-failure-fifty-years-of-brutal-military-occupation\">Al-Haq<\/a> published an article entitled \u201cColonizing the Occupied Palestinian Territory: Fifty Years of Israeli Impunity, Fifty Years of International Failure, Fifty Years of Brutal Military Occupation\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Following reports of two demonstrators killed and 19 injured since the beginning of protests by youth against the blockade on 19 May, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mezan.org\/en\/post\/21936\/Israeli+Forces+Kill+One+Palestinian+and+Injure+19\">Al Mezan<\/a> called on 11 June on the international community to provide protection for civilians in Gaza.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 11 June, the <a href=\"http:\/\/pchrgaza.org\/en\/?p=9186\">Palestinian Centre for Human Rights<\/a> (PCHR) emphasized the potential harm caused by the electricity crisis in Gaza (\u201cAggravation of Electricity Crisis Increases Suffering of Gaza Population and Seriously Threatens their Life\u201d), calling on Israel to fulfil its obligations as an occupying power and guarantee civilians\u2019 access to basic services, and calling on all parties administering the electricity sector to solve the crisis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Jeff Halper, the Director of <a href=\"72mag.com\/fifty-years-on-its-time-for-a-conflict-resolution-in-palestine-israel\/128024\">The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions<\/a>, published an article entitled \u201cEnding the occupation isn\u2019t enough\u201d in <em>+972 Magazine<\/em> on 10 June.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/674-how-can-a-new-uk-government-support-palestinian-health-and-dignity\">Medical Aid for Palestinians<\/a> published an article entitled \u201cHow can a new UK government support Palestinian health and dignity?\u201d, which included a link to a petition that calls on the UK government to support Palestinian health and dignity by taking steps to end the occupation. MAP also released a statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/677-on-10-year-anniversary-of-the-gaza-blockade-map-urges-action-to-prevent-humanitarian-collapse\">14 June<\/a> calling on the international community to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uscpr.org\/ten-years-can-you-imagine\/\">The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights<\/a> published an article entitled \u201cTen years. Can you imagine?\u201d on June 15 outlining some of its campaigns marking the tenth anniversary of the blockade of Gaza. The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights will also host a webinar entitled \u201cNo Bans on Stolen Lands: Refugee Resistance from the U.S. to Palestine\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/uscpr.org\/no-bans-on-stolen-lands\/\">20 June<\/a>.<strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Latin America<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.federacionpalestina.cl\/noticia.php?id=2545\">Federaci\u00f3n Palestina de Chile<\/a> shared an article published by Palestinian Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat in the Spanish newspaper <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> on 14 June.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>United Nations<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/opinion\/fifty-years-ago-an-israeli-occupation-foreseen\/article35250276\/\">UN Special Rapporteur<\/a> on the situation of human rights in the OPT, Michael Lynk, published an op-ed entitled \u201cFifty years ago, an Israeli occupation foreseen\u201d in the Canadian newspaper <em>The Globe and Mail<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 4 June, Robert Piper, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/content\/statement-un-coordinator-humanitarian-aid-and-development-activities-robert-piper-50th\">UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities<\/a>, issued a statement warning of the consequences of a further reduction in Gaza\u2019s electricity supply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This newsletter informs about recent and upcoming activities of Civil Society Organizations affiliated with the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
