Photo: WFP\/Jaber Badwan<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ahmad\u2019s family moved from the West Bank to Gaza in hopes he and his siblings would receive quality schooling. \u201cI want my kids to have a better life than mine,\u201d says Ahmad\u2019s mother, Nour.<\/p>\n<p>But nearly a year of war has destroyed or damaged roughly 560 Gazan schools, experts say, and deprived hundreds of thousands of traumatized kids of an education. Ahmed has seen bodies torn to shreds by bombings and survived multiple displacements to crowded tent camps, where temperatures soar in the summer and freeze in winter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fear bombings and airstrikes,\u201d says Ahmad, whose family now lives in the central town of Deir al-Balah. \u201cI fear when a house or tent nearby suddenly explodes and disappears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For now, he goes to an \u2018educational tent,\u2019 where WFP supplies young students with date bars and other nutritious snacks to stave off soaring hunger and malnutrition that stalks the enclave.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"align-center media--image\" role=\"group\">\n<div class=\"media-single-image__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"field field--field-media-image\">\n<div>\n<div style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27900%27%20height%3D%27506%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20900%20506%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27900%27%20height%3D%27506%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/media_embed\/public\/2024-09\/Ikram-teacher.png?itok=nJlJHVpG\" alt=\"Teacher Ikram, who founded the educational initiative in Gaza, says it will be difficult for students to return to any kind of educational normalcy.
