In Gaza,\u00a0Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, the Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory,\u00a0wrapped up\u00a0a\u00a0two-day visit\u00a0to the Strip\u00a0today.<\/p>\n
While in Gaza, he met with humanitarian partners,\u00a0visited humanitarian\u00a0operations,\u00a0and discussed\u00a0gaps and challenges in the response.<\/p>\n
Today,\u00a0Dr. Alakbarov\u00a0joined a medical evacuation mission\u00a0at\u00a0the Rafah\u00a0crossing,\u00a0where the UN and partners\u00a0help patients and their caregivers\u00a0go to Egypt for treatment.\u00a0He also\u00a0visited a reception centre in Rafah, where humanitarians help people returning to Gaza.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, humanitarians leading on water, sanitation and hygiene services tell us that, in the last few months, they have delivered<\/a> 17,000 hygiene kits, including toothpaste, soap and toothbrushes, to children and their families. Hundreds of water tanks have been installed near tents since the ceasefire, making it easier for people \u2013 especially children \u2013 to find clean water.<\/p>\n On food security, humanitarians report that, this month, families have on average had two meals a day, compared with one meal per day in\u202fJuly\u202fof 2025. While this is an improvement, one in five households still only has one meal a day. Many families say they cannot afford food and other essentials goods.<\/p>\n To help put food on the table,\u00a0in January,\u00a0humanitarians provided cash\u00a0assistance\u00a0to three quarters of a million people.<\/p>\n This month, partners working on shelter provided tents, tarpaulins and other supplies to more than 27,000 displaced families.\u202fAdditionally, today, in the city of Bani Suhaila in Khan Younis governorate, more than 400 vulnerable families living in this area received food and other supplies.<\/p>\n Aid workers\u00a0are also distributing emergency shelter material \u2013 consisting\u00a0mainly of\u00a0salvaged timber and metal pallets \u2013 in Khan Younis and Gaza city.
