OCHA reports that\u00a0families continue to live in overcrowded shelters, which\u00a0pose severe fire risks. Families cook,\u00a0sleep\u00a0and store their belongings\u00a0in small\u00a0spaces\u00a0where they also use open fire – since November\u00a02025, our partners\u00a0have recorded\u00a0at least 12 fires in these shelters.<\/p>\n
In the ten days leading up to 17 February, humanitarians provided shelter\u00a0assistance\u00a0to 85 families in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis whose shelters were damaged by\u202fa fire in Gaza\u202fcity.<\/p>\n
Partners\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0raising\u00a0fire safety\u00a0awareness\u00a0among displaced families to reduce the risk.<\/p>\n
Displaced families need adequate shelter to protect them from the elements and provide more privacy.\u00a0Humanitarian partners\u202freiterate the urgent need to move towards more sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n
In many areas within Gaza, humanitarian movements still require coordination with Israeli authorities. Of 67 movements coordinated between 12 and 19 February, 43 were approved and nine were denied outright. Eight missions were approved but faced impediments, of which six were fully accomplished. Organizers cancelled seven other missions for operational and security reasons.<\/p>\n
Humanitarian\u00a0partners\u00a0coordinated\u00a0the entry of fuel, medical supplies, animal\u00a0fodder\u00a0and hygiene kits into Gaza.\u00a0Teams\u00a0also\u00a0facilitated\u00a0the\u00a0medical evacuation\u00a0of patients\u00a0through Rafah and Kerem Shalom\u00a0crossings.<\/p>\n
In the West Bank,\u00a0OCHA\u00a0warns<\/a> of the continued violence and other coercive practices by Israeli forces and settler communities resulting in casualties, destruction of property and displacement.<\/p>\n Between\u00a03 and 16 February, Israeli forces killed three Palestinians, bringing\u00a0the total number this year\u00a0to nine, including two children.\u00a0Palestinian security forces killed one Palestinian child\u00a0in\u00a0Tammoun, while\u00a0attempting\u00a0to arrest\u00a0his\u00a0father.<\/p>\n During the same period, at least 86 Israeli settler attacks\u00a0were recorded,\u00a0during which\u00a0over 60 Palestinians were injured,\u00a0and\u00a0some\u00a0146 people\u00a0were displaced.\u00a0People in 60 communities were affected by the attacks.<\/p>\n Overall,\u00a0since\u00a0January 2023, and\u00a0as of\u00a016 February 2026,\u00a0some 880\u00a0Palestinian\u00a0families\u00a0–\u00a0over 4,700\u00a0people\u00a0– have\u00a0been displaced across\u00a0the West Bank\u00a0due to settler attacks and access restrictions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 20 February 2026 OCHA reports that\u00a0families continue to live in overcrowded shelters, which\u00a0pose severe fire risks.
