The main collection contains the texts of current and historical United Nations material concerning the question of Palestine and other issues related to the Middle East situation and the search for peace. UNISPAL contains the English texts with a growing number in the other official UN languages.<br \/>\n<a representatives of all Member States.\u00a0 The question of Palestine was first brought before the General Assembly in 1947. By resolution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ARES181II.pdf\">181 (II)<\/a>, the Assembly decided to partition Palestine into two states, one Arab and one Jewish, with Jerusalem placed under a special international regime. After the 1948 war, the Assembly by resolution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ARES194III.pdf\">194 (III)<\/a> of 1949 established the Conciliation Commission for Palestine (UNCCP) to help the parties reach a final settlement, while reaffirming the rights of Palestine refugees to return and restitution. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrwa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNRWA<\/a>, a Palestine refugee agency, was established\u00a0by the Assembly the same year.<\/li>\n<li><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27100%27%20height%3D%27100%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20100%20100%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27100%27%20height%3D%27100%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/security-council-small.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/data-collection\/security-council\/\">Security Council<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Under the United Nations <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/charter-united-nations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charter<\/a>, the Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. Since 1948, the Council has addressed the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian question on many occasions. When fighting broke out, the Council has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/SRES1860.pdf\">called for<\/a>, or ordered cease-fires.<\/li>\n<li><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27100%27%20height%3D%27100%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20100%20100%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27100%27%20height%3D%27100%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/human_right_council-small.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<h3><a href=\"\/unispal\/human-rights-council-resolutions\/\">Human Rights Council<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Human Rights Council (HRC) is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system made up of 47 States, responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe.The Council inter alia appoints the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/SP\/CountriesMandates\/PS\/Pages\/SRPalestine.aspx\">Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967<\/a> whose task is to assess the situation, report publicly about it, and work with governments, civil society and others.\u00a0\u00a0 The human rights situation in Palestine is also considered in the context of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/UPR\/Pages\/UPRMain.aspx\">Universal Periodic Review<\/a> (UPR).\u00a0 The Council has dispatched fact-finding missions to investigate violations of human rights, such as the UN fact-finding mission on the Gaza conflict in 2009, the UN fact-finding mission on the Gaza flotilla in 2010, and the UN fact-finding mission on Israeli settlements in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>A permanent feature of the Council\u2019s agenda is Item 7 on \u201cHuman rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 In March 2016, the Council voted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/A_HRC_31_L.39.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">produce a database of all business enterprises<\/a> conducting activities in or related to Israel\u2019s settlements.<\/li>\n<li><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27100%27%20height%3D%27100%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20100%20100%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27100%27%20height%3D%27100%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/ecosoc-small.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/data-collection\/the-united-nations-economic-and-social-council\/\">Economic and Social Council<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Economic and Social Council (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/ecosoc\/en\/\">ECOSOC<\/a>) is at the heart of the UN system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/ecosoc\/en\/content\/promotion-du-d%C3%A9veloppement-durable\">economic, social and environmental<\/a>. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
