Every\u00a0<\/span>year on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, UN Member States stand together in a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to peace. This year\u2019s commemoration will take place amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza following unimaginable violence and a humanitarian catastrophe that has claimed the lives of tens of thousands and forcibly displaced hundreds of thousands more.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Solidarity Day commemorates the adoption on 29 November 1947 of General Assembly <\/span>Resolution 181<\/span><\/a>, which envisaged the partition of Mandate Palestine into two states \u2013 one Arab and one Jewish \u2013 with Jerusalem under United Nations administration. Over seven decades later, after numerous wars and ongoing conflict, the hope for lasting peace in the Middle East remains unfulfilled. Today, the need for a durable solution is more urgent than ever.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On this solemn day, the international community, led by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, gathers for an expression of profound solidarity. The Committee <\/span>special meeting<\/span><\/b>, to be held at the UN headquarters in New York, ECOSOC Chamber on<\/span> 25 November (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), will offer an opportunity for Member States, regional organizations and civil society to share messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people. Similar events take place at UN offices in Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna as well as others throughout the world.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>All Member States\u00a0<\/span>and Observers<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>United Nations organizations, intergovernmental and civil society organizations\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0invited to attend<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>event<\/span>\u00a0will be webcast at\u00a0UN WEB TV<\/a>. <\/span>Commemorations will continue on 4 December with a screening of <\/span>\u201cThe Voice of Hind Rajab\u201d<\/span><\/b>. More details about the screening<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
