This GeoTalks on January 2025, hosted by the Chair of the UN Geospatial Network, featured Mr. Coen Bussink and Mr. Lorenzo Vita from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The topic of the GeoTalks was “Drugs and crime statistics : Leveraging geospatial information, analytics and earth observation". The session  showcased how UNODC applies remote sensing and geospatial analytics to support policy development, evaluation, and law enforcement efforts. The presentation highlighted applications such as monitoring illicit crops, illegal mining, and illegal logging activities, providing insights into spatial distribution, temporal changes, and risk patterns. It also demonstrated use cases with emerging technologies, including AI-driven approaches. The was presented as a global gateway to near real-time drug trafficking data, integrating multiple data sources to visualize and share trends in synthetic and plant-based drugs trafficking.
