#YOUTHLEAD(ERSHIP) ROUNDTABLE
Full and Effective Participation of LDC, LLDC, and SIDS Youth in the Implementation of Programmes of Action
30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY) and the #YouthLead Festival
2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY), a milestone opportunity to reaffirm the UN’s commitment to empowering young people as agents of change.
For the world’s most vulnerable countries - Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the meaningful participation of youth is particularly vital. These countries face distinct structural challenges, including limited productive capacity, geographical isolation, and heightened vulnerability to climate change and external shocks.
The Programmes of Action for LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS namely the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA), the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA), and the , provide comprehensive frameworks to address these challenges. Youth engagement in their follow-up and implementation is not only a question of inclusion, but a strategic imperative to ensure their effectiveness and long-term success.
Building on the momentum of the LDC5 Youth Track, the SIDS Children and Youth Action Summit, and the LLDC3 Youth Forum, this roundtable seeks to elevate youth voices, highlight their contributions to implementation processes, and strengthen youth networks across LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS.
