From 4 to 6 July 2022, the United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, visited Geneva, Switzerland, for his annual meeting with the Members of the International Law Commission.听 The meeting at the Palais des Nations in Geneva was the first in-person meeting after the pandemic.听 Because of the COVID-19 situation, the meeting had to be canceled in 2020, and in 2021, the Legal Counsel could only meet with the Members of the Commission virtually from New York.听 In his address on 5 July 2022, the Legal Counsel informed the Members of the Commission comprehensively about developments in international law at the United Nations and the activities of his Office. 听In accordance with established tradition, the statement听was followed by a question and answer session with the Members of the Commission.

While in Geneva, the Legal Counsel also met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, at the Palais Wilson for an exchange on matters of mutual interest.
