Online Conference
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat and the German Federal Foreign Office have partnered to organize a conference on "Effective Multilateralism and International Law". Initially, the event had been planned as a one-day conference to be held at the Foreign Office in Berlin. After it became clear that the pandemic would not allow for an in-person event, the conference has been re-organized as a half-day virtual meeting which took place on 9 October 2020. The conference featured three panels and brought together leading practitioners and academics to discuss the achievements that have been accomplished in the area of international law.
The Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, H.E. Mr. Heiko Maas, offered welcoming听, followed by opening听听by the Director-General for Legal Affairs of the German Foreign Office, Dr. Christophe Eick, and the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel,听.
