12.??Decides to establish, within existing resources, an annual “peacebuilding week” in June, timed around the commemoration of the inaugural meeting of the Commission, aimed at raising awareness of the peacebuilding and sustaining peace efforts of the United Nations among a wide and inclusive group of stakeholders, fostering inclusive dialogue on peacebuilding approaches and promoting the sharing of good practices in peacebuilding and sustaining peace;

2025 twin resolutions adopted by the Security Council () and the General Assembly ()?

??

The first annual?Peacebuilding Week in June 2026, mandated by the 2025 General Assembly and Security Council resolutions on the Peacebuilding Architecture Review (PBAR)[1], coincides with the 20th anniversary of the inaugural session of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in June 2006 and the inception that year of the Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund.

Marking two decades of collective effort worldwide, the first-ever?Peacebuilding Week will offer an inclusive space for local, national and international champions to celebrate peacebuilding’s achievements and to look ahead to a new generation of efforts.

Through the PBAR resolutions, Member States recognized the vital role of the United Nations in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, reaffirmed the centrality of national ownership, and reiterated the importance of partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders. This first Peacebuilding Week will be a timely step to action the ambitions of the resolutions to create more visibility for United Nations peacebuilding and prevention work and foster stronger partnerships to ensure that peacebuilding continues to evolve as a resilient, dynamic, adaptive and forward-looking paradigm.

In celebration of the Week, the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) will organize, or support, a series of anchor events under the overall theme of “UN Peacebuilding @20 – Partnerships for Innovation, Inclusion and Impact”, aiming to convene a broad spectrum of partners from Government, civil society, youth-led organizations, multilateral financial institutions, and the private sector. Events will showcase accumulated expertise and evidence of “what works” in peacebuilding, and explore how new partnerships, including with digital technology, private sector, and young people, can broaden pathways to lasting peace through approaches that are nationally-owned, locally-led and internationally-backed.

Member States, UN entities, civil society organizations and other partners may wish to organize additional events to mark Peacebuilding Week, whether in New York or other locations around the world. To facilitate coordination, PBPSO will host a dedicated Peacebuilding Week website including an interactive calendar, so that those who wish to do so may share and coordinate details of planned activities. Invitations, logistical and other arrangements will remain the full responsibility of individual organizers.

To add your event to the calendar, please contact PBPSO at peacebuildingweek@un.org.
