80th Anniversary of the United Nations
On United Nations’ 80th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter, the Office of the President of the General Assembly is taking several initiatives that aim to commemorate the enduring relevance and spirit of unity embodied in the United Nations ¡ª bringing together diverse voices under one shared message of hope and renewal.
The process for the selection and appointment of the next Secretary-General has been formally initiated by the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Security Council. The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, has committed to guiding this process in a transparent and inclusive manner.
General Assembly resolution 79/327 on the Revitalization of the work of the General Assembly sets out the process for the selection and appointment in line with Article 97 of the Charter of the United Nations.
