Recent United Nations reporting has highlighted the increasingly adaptive nature of the global terrorist threat, including the growing use of new and emerging technologies by terrorist groups, including UAS.

On the margins of the United Nations High-Level Counter-Terrorism Week, a dedicated side event titled “Addressing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean as a key component of counter-terrorism” will be held on Thursday, 2 July 2026 from 08:00 – 09:30am EDT. The side event will take place at the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations and will also be accessible via Microsoft Teams.

On Friday, 26 June 2026, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), are co-organizing a side event on “Beyond Tokenism:  Women Leading Prevention, Justice and Policy in Counter-Terrorism from 10:00 – 11:15 EDT at United Nations Headquarters in New York in Conference Room 11.

To contribute to the global conversation on counter terrorism efforts and in support of Pillar II of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy on measures to prevent and combat terrorism, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), jointly with the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Malta, will convene an interactive side event on “Terrorism and Maritime Insecurity: Collective Efforts to Counter Terrorism in the Maritime Domain” on Tuesday, 30 June 20
