The Secretary-General met today with His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. The Secretary-General congratulated His Majesty on the successful conclusion of Brunei's chairmanship of ASEAN. They discussed a number of topics of mutual concern, including Brunei’s contribution to peacekeeping, UN-ASEAN cooperation and Brunei’s accession to the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations. They also discussed climate change, education, women's empowerment, the Alliance of Civilizations and the crisis in Syria.
