The Secretary-General today met with H.E. Mr. Norbert Lammert, President of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, and H.E. Mr. Norbert Röttgen, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Germany’s leading role in the United Nations, backing humanitarian efforts as well as providing personnel to peacekeeping operations in Mali and elsewhere. The Secretary-General also thanked Germany for hosting the UNs family in Bonn.

They discussed issues of common concern, including the threat of violent extremism, the situation in Ukraine, the challenge of migration, and common efforts to combat climate change as well as to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Secretary-General highlighted the important role of Members of Parliament in implementing international treaties and decisions as direct link to citizens.
