Vincent Loka, of Indonesia, is one of three co-founders of , a social enterprise developing water filtration solutions that bring rapid access to clean drinking water in disaster-hit locations. Wateroam’s mission works towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation, as they use their water filtration solutions to improve the life, living and livelihood of individuals around the globe.
Through fieldwork and user feedback, Vincent and the team engineer Wateroam’s technology to ensure it meets the demands of its beneficiaries. Their lightweight but durable innovation, the ROAMfilter Plus, fits into a backpack, serves 100 people and lasts for two years. Wateroam’s devices filter out bacteria and viruses from dirty water within minutes, providing vulnerable communities an affordable, sustainable, and easy to use solution.
“Sustainability is key, because we want to make sure communities have clean water for years to come,” Vincent says, “as a social enterprise, we must ensure sustainability in many realms: social impact, business, stakeholder benefit, partner relationships, technology and product development. To achieve our goal of bringing clean water to people everywhere, we must be sustainable in every way.”
To reach communities in need all over the globe, Wateroam works with many non-profit organisations to deploy their solutions; these partnerships have brought clean water rural communities and to victims of the Nepal Earthquake, Myanmar floods, Lombok Earthquake, Rohingya Refugee Crisis and most recently, Vanuatu’s Cyclone Harold. Wateroam has impacted the lives of over 88,000 people worldwide and they continue to innovate so they can impact the lives of many more.
