UN80 Meetings and Engagements

The Informal Ad Hoc Working Group on the UN80 Initiative convened its inaugural meeting today with Member States, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 79/119.

As part of the UN80 Initiative's second workstream, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has presented a set of proposals to Member States included in the Report of the Mandate Implementation Review.

Under Secretary-General for Policy and chair of the UN80 initiative tasforce Guy Ryder participates at the High-Level Political Forum event: UN at 80: the role of ECOSOC in leading action for a stronger and more effective multilateral system.

Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Ryder participated in a side event held in the context of the High-Level Political Forum, where he addressed participants on the UN80 initiative - an ambitious effort to strengthen the UN system ahead of its 80th anniversary.

The Under-Secretary-General for Policy, Guy Ryder, briefed UN correspondents on the latest developments under the UN80 initiative - the Secretary-General’s effort to strengthen the UN’s coherence, agility, and effectiveness.

The UN80 taskforce, and representatives from each of its seven thematic clusters, brief Member States during a informal meeting of the plenary to hear an update on the UN80 Initiative.

On 11 March 2025, the UN Secretary General launched the UN80 Initiative to ensure the UN remains effective, cost-efficient and responsive to the People it serves. He undertook to consult closely and regularly on the progress made.

Briefing Member States in New York, The Secretary-General outlined UN80, a wide-ranging effort to revamp how the UN system operates – cutting costs, streamlining operations, and modernizing its approach to peace and security, development and human rights.

The United Nations is prioritising reform to ensure it remains effective, cost-efficient and responsive to the people it serves, Secretary-General António Guterres announced on 31 March, as part of a continued push to modernize the Organization.
