Our mandate and role
The System?Wide Evaluation Office conducts system?wide evaluations and provides evidence on the contribution of the United Nations development system to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Independent, system?wide evaluations assess collective results, performance, and effectiveness of the United Nations development system. It is focused on system?level results, rather than the performance of individual United Nations entities. This provides accountability, transparency, and collective learning, to support decision?making system-wide.

UNSDG System?Wide Evaluation Policy
The United Nations Sustainable Development System?Wide Evaluation Policy, defines the purpose, scope, and principles for system-wide evaluation across the United Nations development system.
The policy sets out the procedures and mechanisms for the conduct and use of system?wide evaluations to support accountability, learning, and decision?making.

Leadership

The Executive Director, Andrea Cook, was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in 2023.
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and ensures the independence, quality, and integrity of system?wide evaluations and promotes accountability, transparency and collective learning across the United Nations development system.
